On December 9, 2024, our Foundation takes an important step towards a 2025 full of activity and productivity. On this date, we have received formal approval documents from the “Pan Cyprian Volunteerism Coordination Council” (ПаукіПр LUVTOVIOTIKÓ EUMBOUNO ElEMOVTIOHOÚ): the supreme coordination body of voluntary offering based on local legislation and founded in 1973.
In 1973, the Pan-Cypriot Welfare Council was established when the need was identified to coordinate voluntary organisations, develop policies in the field of voluntary social welfare and cooperate responsibly with the relevant services of the Republic of Cyprus in the formulation and implementation of state social policy. The Council's substantial contribution in its area of competence led to the introduction of a new legal framework and status for the Council, with the enactment of the “Law on the Pan-Cypriot Welfare Council” (152/89). The Council's successful track record and the expansion of the voluntary sector indicated the need for a revised legal framework in order for the Council to respond more effectively to its role and responsibilities. Therefore, in 2006, “Law 61(I)/2006 on the Pan-Cypriot Volunteer Coordinating Council” was passed, which replaced the Law on the Pan-Cypriot Welfare Council. Since then, the Council has been renamed the Pancypriot Volunteer Coordinating Council and acts as the Supreme Coordinating Body of NGOs and voluntary service.
